Apparently: one would need to read previous books to know who on earth the characters were - and their history.There's a inbuilt attempt at 'romance' that seems to have been inserted on a whim - and is just annoying .... exacerbated by a (presumably) male authour predicting female reactions.
Then there's an annoying lack of an 'ending' - another of those silly attempts to get the reader to seek a sequel - no thanks!
The telling of the tale can be a bit simplistic and amateurish.....a good editor may have been the cure....?

The author seems to have the ability to write sentences and makes romance the be-all and end-all of this book. The stereotypical cardboard characters give you a great cardboard plot where everything is black and white.
The female detective is likeable and gives one the feeling of reality in her struggles with relationships and inner conflicts.
The familial thread is woven with care. The locale of the story seems to fit with the real life themes of a large cosmopoilitan area.
I'm from Chicago and could easily relate to the areas in the story..
Was the story great, so, so. I enjoyed reading it, it wasn't great.
would I read another of those stories probably not. I really
felt used when the story was to be continued by purchasing the
next book.
This story line had a real family touch! Two sibs trying to regain the harmony that existed in childhood, even though they lived in different worlds today! The cop had the persistence to keep up the chase, and solve the mysteries! She was ex-marine, which we know is an oxymoron! One a Marine, always a Marine! Very good read! Completely enjoyed by me!
I am still waiting for an ending to this book... Also, the poor proofing, with words totally left out of the text. Usually I would just give an unfinished book a 1-star rating, add the author to my "Authors to Avoid" list, and go on to another author. One who cares more about pleasing their readers than selling (?) their next book. News flash I NEVER buy the next book!
Really phenomenal! Excellent storytelling, well-drawn characters. I love Shannon! I was wary due to a review that mentioned editing errors (I'm a copyeditor at my day job), but fortunately that complaint turned out to be unfounded. Excellent followup to Chicago blood! Highly recommended.
