New author, good story. Karina is almost through college but still very protected by her parents. Finally she convinces them to let her spend the summer at their lake cabin, working as a waitress in a friend's cafe. What could happen?
Right, she didn't count on running into a wild pack of coyotes, coyote-shifters. Or a huge wild bobcat--or maybe not so wild. Then there's the guy. What a guy. Oh, yeah, the guy and the cat have a lot in common--a lot-- Duke as cat, Jace as guy. Yep, he's a shifter too.
The pack is protected trouble and not friends with Jace. When he shows an interest in Karina they show an unhealthy interest as well. This is not for the light sweet romance reader. It has some grit, violence, language and a lot of steamy sex. If that's your ticket with a good story then this is for you.
I can't wait for book two to see how these two continue. Will they become more or will the danger and violence keep them apart?

Lover's Purr, for me, was very much a coming-of-age story as well as a paranormal romance. Karina is a young woman just testing the waters, having a first job and living on her own at the family cabin for a summer. Claudia Farwell does a good job capturing the perspective of a young college-aged girl experiencing many things for the first time - including romance. The danger and action added extra interest to the story. The ending seemed as though the story should continue in another book. I look forward to seeing how things work out for the hero & heroine.”

In this first book in the series, Karina convinces her parents to let her spend the summer before she graduates living in their cabin by the lake and working at the local diner to support herself. She's excited about her summer of freedom, even more so when she meets the gorgeous Jace and there's an obvious mutual attraction.
Looking for fun things to do in the area, Karina comes across an old legend about a pack of coyotes that wrecked havoc by attacking people and wildlife and about the Bobcat that used to chase them off. obviously she believes this is just a story but she starts to rethink when she comes face to face with a huge Bobcat on the way to the lake and a few nights later is attack by a pack of coyotes.
I thought this book was well written , the storyline kept me interested from start to finish.
The authors talented portrayal of the characters personalities and traits made it clear to tell what were animal they were even before you meet them in animal form and vice versa.
The hot and sexy Jace isn't the usual possessive Alpha male that most shifter books portray, he's protective and sweet and caring.
I'd definitely recommend this book and I'm looking forward to reading book 2, lovers pounce.
This was a great short story to start off a series, as it builds a perfect base for the rest of the series to come from giving us great characters with a connection and an evil they will face together.
The main characters are Jace (Duke) and Karina. Karina is the first character we meet in this book, Karina is taking online classes and after a conversation with her parents she decides to go to their summer house to earn some money in a nearby bar. The place of the summer house however seems to be overrun with dangerous coyotes and myths and legends that surround them. Karina finds herself to be faced with these creatures a lot as well as another creature who always comes to her rescue. Duke is a Bobcat and a man, in fact he is Jace the man who Karina finds herself wanting above everyone else. Karina and Jace soon discover that they are meant to be together with Duke claiming her for his mate. The two main characters are very sweet together and very well matched, I enjoyed reading about them.
The secondary characters I found most noteworthy include Fred, Marcus and Cassie. Fred is the guy who owns the place that Karina gets a job at, he is also the one who warns her about the wild animals. Marcus is I think the bad guy in this book, determined to get to Karina he will do anything, only Jace stops him. Caddie is the girl that helps Karina get to grips with the job I hope they become friends because this story is lacking in female influence that I think would benefit Karina.
The pacing and storyline are good leaving it up to the last minute to let us know whether the main characters get together. I also feel the storyline is original offering new 'were creatures' that I've not read about before.
4 stars a good start to the series.

A fast paced and smooth flowing plot captivates readers with suspense, discovery and romance. Strong compelling characters grab the reader’s attention and a fascinating legend draws the reader deep into the story as Karina discovers that sometimes things are more than they seem.
The well written scenes and details capture the imagination as the reader get caught up in the story. Excitement and anticipation builds as Karina branches out on her own and meets a sexy new man who has secrets and Karina is in danger from some coyote-thugs of course she doesn’t know they are one in the same as she also discovers that there is more in this world than she imagined.
The author has taken an intriguing legend and created a fascinating tale with some interesting elements and characters. Although too short, the story is a quick entertaining read and I can’t wait to read the next one.
